Looking back and reflecting on the events surrounding our recent presidential election, we see powerful forces at work that would divide our country. The Bible is clear that a house divided cannot stand. It is so important that God’s people pray regularly for our country and its leaders. “First of all then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made… for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life” (1st Timothy 2:1-2). We must also remember that our battle is not against other people, “… but against … the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). I am convinced that the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is the answer. I believe that as God’s people humble themselves, repent, and pray, God will hear our prayers and heal our nation.
Looking ahead, we see Christmas at hand. During a recent walk through a shopping mall, I saw the Christmas decorations and people beginning their shopping. I could not help but notice a spirit of joy in the air. I believe it was the Spirit of God rejoicing as believers all over the world begin to celebrate the birth of His only begotten Son – our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. And yet, it is easy to stress out during the hustle and bustle of the season. While gift giving is a wonderful thing, let us commit this Christmas season to always remember what it is truly about, and at every opportunity tell others about the good news of our best friend, Jesus Christ. God promises to keep us in perfect peace when our mind is fixed on Him (Isaiah 26: 3).
