Discipleship Training Course & Outreach (DTC)
The DTC this spring at our church was life changing. From February through April we received divine teachings from Youth With A Mission (www.YWAM.org) missionaries on topics so critical to walking intimately with God and serving Him. This included 10 weekends of life-changing teaching and worship, followed by a 12-day outreach to St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
The teachings were so rich and deep, because we received a full seven hours of instruction on each one, but more importantly, they were taught by YWAM men and women who were not only mature in the Lord, but had personally experienced what they were teaching. Each of them had “walked the walk” on their respective topics.
One of the teachings so meaningful to many of us was The Father Heart of God, because God used it to give us revelation knowledge of how much He loves us and all of mankind. We learned truths like:
- We cannot do anything to make God love us more or less than He already does,
- He created us for intimate relationship with Him,
- It’s not what we do; it’s who we are in Him
- It’s not about performance, but relationship, and
- God is love; He does not do love.
God used these truths and others throughout the ten weeks to reinforce within our hearts that His love for us and all of mankind is infinite – it cannot even be measured because it is so vast. He also revealed that when we get hold of this truth, it gives us a greater capacity to love others.
When we go out, the Lord of the harvest is with us to show Himself strong on our behalf. Nothing
could have been more evident of this than when we were in St. Croix for our outreach in May. There
were so many divine appointments that no one could call them coincidence. I believe that these were in
large part due to the love and unity, which God developed among us during the prior 10 weeks of
teaching and class interaction. We saw God’s hand move on our behalf in so many other miraculous
ways as well – through prayer walks, ministering to children at a government housing project and an
overcrowded daycare home, ministering to the homeless through food and clothing, street evangelism, and giving testimony at a local Christian TV station.
This DTC has been life-changing. God has revealed the depth to which He loves us, and given us a new desire to know Him intimately, as well as to tell as many people as possible about the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. To God be the glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
