Making Christ Known in Northern Virginia

In 2013-2014, we launched a ministry at Shepherd Gate Church, called The School of Ministry. Its purpose is twofold:

  1. To help people grow in the knowledge of God through which their lives can be transformed into the image of Christ, and
  2. To serve as an outreach by offering classes that meet the practical, heartfelt needs of people in our community, as well as those at our church.

To fulfill this purpose it is our desire and vision that God will grow this ministry so that we can offer a broad variety of classes to meet the heart-felt and practical needs of people.  Examples include classes on the Bible, marriage, parenting, finances, the Holy Spirit, Worship, recovery, and English as a second language. Some classes are instructor-led; others involve discussion groups, and still others are DVD-based.

There are two semesters – fall and spring, each of which span approximately 13 weeks. The fall and spring semesters are intended to provide time-off during the holidays and the summer.

Current Course Offerings

This fall we will be offering our second Daniel Discipleship Training Class (DTC), following the completion of our first and highly successful one held this spring.

We are also offering a class on How to Study the Bible at 9:00 a.m. each Sunday morning in the church Library. The class is being taught by one of our missionaries, Merle Jacobs. For further information on the class, please call the church office at 703-961-1040.

The purpose of the School of Ministry is to help people grow in the knowledge of God through which their lives can be transformed into the image of Christ. We also want to use it as an outreach to our community. Please look over the schedule to see which classes you will want to benefit from, and contact the instructor as soon as possible so that any needed books or other class materials can be ordered early. Please tell your friends and neighbors about the classes as well by giving them a copy of the spring schedule.

In addition to the School of Ministry, Shepherd Gate Church has developed a two-part program to help us develop as Spiritual Leaders. What is Spiritual Leadership? Henry Blackaby defines it as “moving people onto God’s agenda.”

“Shepherd Gate’s new School of Ministry adult education program, coupled with our Leadership Development Program, are exciting new additions to our ministry offerings, designed to ‘equip the saints to do the work of the ministry’ at our church and in our surrounding community.” – Tom Nusbaum, Administrator

Whether you attend Shepherd Gate Church or not, we invite you to join us for any one of these classes to help you grow in the knowledge of God. For further information please contact the church office at 703-961-1040, or garywoodford@shepherdgate.org
