Daniel and Scotti Duis
Dan Duis is the founding pastor of Shepherd Gate Church. He traces his calling to the traumatic events that followed a farming accident on his Dad's Kansas farm. From his youth he dreamed of the day when he would pastor a church and have a horse farm.
Following college, Dan was involved in youth ministry in Arlington, VA when he prayed a salvation prayer and turned his entire life over to the Lord. The next night he prayed to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Thus began a fire for the Lord that brought revival to a community of young people. In the third year of that ministry, Christian Assembly called Dan to serve as their youth pastor. He took the position in August of 1974 and married Scotti Stringfellow on December 28, 1974. Dan served in many roles including Associate Pastor and founder of The Christian Assembly Academy until January 1986 when he was asked by the elders to begin a new work in Western Fairfax County.
After laying a foundation of prayer, Dan and Scotti and several members from the Christian Assembly, ventured out to form what would be known as Shepherd Gate Church. Dan and Scotti have served this body for the past 25 years. They have a daughter Corrie Lynn and she is married to Craig Jaggers and they have a new son, Aidan born May 16, 2010. Corrie works with Youth With A Mission and Craig is a policy director for World Vision. They live close by in Arlington.
Dan and Scotti also have three sons; Matt, Sam and Tyler. Matt has identical twin daughters Alex and Jordan born in 2001 and Sam has a daughter Bailey who was born in 2007. Tyler helps Dan with the horse farm that he dreamed of having as a boy; and Sam and Tyler are part of the music ministry at Shepherd Gate. They also have a band called Melodime for which they have vision of being a witness for Christ.
Dan has a heart for the local church and still senses the calling of pastor on his life. There is recognition that there must be others coming behind carrying the banner of the gospel. So in these years, there is particular interest in the development of future leaders in the Body of Christ. After all, he owes much to the mentoring he received from Dr. Carl H.F. Henry, Derrel Emmerson, the elders of Christian Assembly, and Ken O'Hare, missionary to France. We can all trace our success to the investment that others have made in our life.
